exploratory, inclusive, exciting.
Re:Ensemble is a project-based chamber collective founded by violinist and artistic director Kate Maloney. Conceived as a flexible artistic platform rather than a fixed orchestra, the ensemble brings together leading musicians to develop concept-driven programmes.
At the heart of Re:Ensemble is a curatorial approach that treats each project as a cohesive artistic statement. Canonical works are recontextualised through thoughtful programming, spatial awareness, and collaboration with living composers. The ensemble’s format shifts according to the demands of the repertoire — from intimate chamber configurations to larger chamber-orchestral forces — allowing sound, concept, and narrative to shape structure.
Kate Maloney’s dual role as performer and curator defines the ensemble’s identity. As a violinist, she approaches programming from within the music itself, shaping projects through texture, gesture, and emotional architecture. As artistic director, she develops frameworks that extend beyond the traditional concert format, inviting new listening experiences and cross-disciplinary resonance.
Re:Ensemble’s work reflects a contemporary classical sensibility: rooted in tradition yet forward-facing. Its projects seek clarity of idea and depth of expression, creating performances that are immersive, collaborative, and responsive to the present moment.
